Sunday 29th of May 2016 - Fleetwood Channel

Fourth match of the season was fished at Fleetwood today 9:00 to 12:00 with low water at 11:30.

We were greeted with beautiful weather for the match but unfortunately it appears that the fish have also taken advantage of the weather and gone on holiday.

Fishing overall was poor with only 6 of the 14 anglers fishing the match actually managing to land fish that were in-size.

Anglers were roughly split between fishing the shingle bank in front of the North Euston Hotel and those fishing on the sand further down river.

Those that took the longer walk down river made the correct choice as only 4 undersized codling were caught from the shingle.

Out on the sand flounders and place showed early in the match falling to peeler crab but bites dried up with a total of only 7 flounders and 3 plaice being caught.

Overall winner was again Ian Hewitt (LMS A) with 3 flounders for 49 pts.

Sunday 22nd May 2016 Stannah

Third match of the season at Stannah Creek this morning.

Match was fished from 10:00 to 13:00 with high tide at 12:15.

Conditions have changed a lot in the last year with a high bank being in place towards the bend that made fishing difficult in the last hour.

Fishing was quite in the first hour with only the odd fish showing and for me personally even then they were undersized.

As the flow eased the fish came on and as expected this time of year the bait of choice was peeler crab however best results were when this was tipped with a good chunk of bluey.

Once high water was reached fishing dropped off again as the run died. But conditions were cleaner.

High Water

Winner of the match was Ian Hewitt with 8 fish for 117 points including a good sized eel.

Personally ended up with 8 fish but only 3 in size.
